One Ocean Science Congress 2025

The ATLANTIS team was displaying our work across the globe again!
Catherine, PhD candidate in ATLANTIS, had the pleasure of attending OOSC in Nice last June🌊. It was a full four days of intensive and essential ocean science aimed at protecting the ocean of tomorrow 🌍. Alongside 619 other scientists presenting their posters at the conference, one thing became clear: the research is available, now we need solutions 🧪. From the perspective of ocean rights and working towards an ecologically sustainable transition, we should focus on what the ocean needs to thrive, rather than what we need from it 🪸. Alarming discussions about pollution and the emergence of novel entities that transgress planetary boundaries, such as plastics, underscore the necessity of this shift 🚫.
She had a poster session on: Is It Fate? Quantifying plastic pollution from land to sea. Aiming to link existing or in preparation marine impacts to mismanaged plastic waste, so we can quantify the probability of a piece of plastic reaching the ocean globally.

Keep your eyes open, our publication for this fate model will come out in the coming months!
