After working as a research assistant in ATLANTIS, I, Catherine Deschênes, am happy to announce that I have started a PhD in that same project.

With ATLANTIS being extended a year until March 2026, an opportunity came up for me to step-up as a PhD in ATLANTIS.

With a background in environmental chemistry and marine biology, and a master thesis on microplastics sampling and characterisation, I am excited to start a PhD in quantifying the fate and assessing the aquatic impacts of plastic pollution for Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA). What does it entail if we mismanage 1 kg of plastics on land for biodiversity in the ocean? What will the probability be that this kilo reaches the ocean and in turn affects marine organisms through ingestion or entanglement? This PhD will help link other research done within the ATLANTIS project and will therefore connect the studies together.

Otherwise, if I am not trying to follow plastic around, I am probably out-and-about in the wonderful Norwegian nature.
